Koningsdag (Kingsday)

Date: 27 April

This day marks the birthday of King Willem-Alexander. The whole city will be upside down! Children sell stuff at the free market and adults party at various locations with a beer in hand. From all over the country, Dutch people come to the capital to experience this day.

Gaypride

Date: first weekend of August

Gay Pride is an important event for the gay community at home and abroad. It is a celebration of tolerance towards homosexuals. The canal parade, a parade with boats full of enthusiastically dressed men and women, is the highlight of the festival.

De parade (the parade)

Date: August

De Parade is a cosy festival in Amsterdam Zuid. Various tents host theatre performances and offer delicious food and drinks. The atmosphere is very cosy, with a large water fountain and carousel, there is plenty to do for everyone. This well-attended festival is suitable for all ages.

Grachtenfestival (the canal festival)

Date: 15 t/m 24 augustus

Are you a music lover? Then visit the Grachtenfestival. Young musicians come from all over the world to surprise you with their musical story. This event takes place both indoors and outdoors, on stages in the canals, on boats, in beautiful 17th-century canal houses and many other locations typical of Amsterdam.

Taste of Amsterdam

Date: first weekend of June

Culinary foodies can indulge during the Taste of Amsterdam. The Netherlands' best chefs will visit and you can taste food from the capital's best restaurants. You can also try your hand at various cooking workshops.

Sail Amsterdam (2025)

Date: August Date: Aug. 20 to 24, 2025 (once every 5 years)

Sail Amsterdam is a 5-yearly, multi-day maritime event in Amsterdam. It is rigged around an armada of monumental sailing ships, which, after a parade through the North Sea Canal, moor along the quayside of the IJ and in the main IJ harbours for several days. Do you happen to be in Amsterdam? Then this event is definitely worth a visit!
