Amsterdam offers numerous parties and festivals. Particularly in Summer, there are special events going on in Amsterdam just about every weekend. Below, we highlight a number of events for you. But of course, there are many more. Just ask our staff at the reception desk for an overview of what’s going on during your Amsterdam visit.
Date: 27th April
On this day, the Dutch celebrate King Willem-Alexander’s birthday. The whole city goes wild on this day! You will find children selling items on the free street market and adults partying everywhere with a beer in their hands. Dutch people from all over the country come to the capital to experience this day.
Period: first weekend of August
Gay Pride is an important event for the gay community, both in the Netherlands and abroad. It’s a celebration of tolerance towards homosexuals. The Canal Parade, a long parade of boats full of enthusiastic and extravagantly dressed men and women, is the highlight of the festival.
Period: first weekend of June
For Gaasper Camping Amsterdam, the Amsterdam Open Air Festival is always the highlight of the year. For a period of three days, our campsite is converted into a festival camping in collaboration with Amsterdam OpenAir. Dance away in the silent disco, party until the early hours of the morning, or lounge in a fantastic pirate ship. The festival grounds are just a stone’s throw away from the campsite.
Period: August
The Parade is festival with a great atmosphere in the Amsterdam Zuid district. Visit different theatre shows, all in their own tents, and enjoy wonderful food and delicious drinks. The ambience is fantastic, with a large water fountain, a merry-go-round and many more things to enjoy. This popular festival is suitable for all ages.
Period: 9th – 18th August
Are you a music lover? If so, the Grachtenfestivalis a must. Young musicians from all over the world come to Amsterdam to surprise you with their musical tales. The event takes place both indoors and outdoors, on stages in the canals, on boats, in beautiful 17th-century canal mansions and many other locations that are characteristic of Amsterdam.
Period: first weekend of June
Culinary connoisseurs can indulge themselves during the Taste of Amsterdamevent. The best chefs from the Netherlands will be there to let you taste recipes from the capital’s best restaurants. You can also do some cooking yourself in one of several cooking workshops.
Period: August, once every 5 years (2025)
Sail Amsterdamis a maritime event lasting several days that takes place in Amsterdam once every five years. The event revolves around an armada of monumental sailing vessels moored on the docks of the river IJ and the extensive IJ harbours, after a parade through the North Sea Canal. If you happen to be in Amsterdam during the event, it is certainly worth a visit!
